ABOUT MEDELLIN COLOMBIA

It has a strategic geographical location located on a valley of the Central Mountain Range of The Andes, at 1,475 meters above sea level. This provides a temperate climate, with average temperatures of 24ºC.

Economic Activity:
Currently the economic activities driving the city’s progress are the textile industry, generating 53% of jobs in the Antioquia region, making the city the fashion capital of Latin America; apparel; trade; energy generation; construction and services, which also power Medellin’s economy. Furthermore, its modern hospital infrastructure, scientific research, urban ecological projects and the varied offer of university and technological centers, make it one of the most dynamic cities in the country and one of the most seductive to visit.
Public Transportation
The city offers different transportation alternatives. To get to the event’s venue we suggest the following:
When taking a taxi, we recommend only taken those available at designated pick up points or requesting a service by phone to the following numbers: 361 6464, 444 4444, 444 11 11, 444 0000, 444 5555 and to the airport: 235 7171 or 235 7676.

In the city of Medellin, taxis work with rates regulated by a meter. We recommend requesting the drivers to turn the meter on when boarding and only paying what the same indicates. The minimum rate is $3,900 and service to the international airport Jose Maria Cordova has a rate of $50,000.
Other options are:
Subway: the closest subway station to the event venue is Exposiciones.
Bus: the Tradeshow participants may board a bus on the following roads: Avenida Ferrocarril, Calle San Juan and Calle 33.

What Clothes to Wear
Given that the climate does not change much throughout the year, we recommend using light cotton clothing. If you will be visiting neighboring municipalities, the climate will change for which we recommend warm clothing. Informal clothing is well accepted. If you will be visiting tourist sites, we recommend wearing comfortable clothes and shoes. When going to restaurants, ties are optional. To attend special events you must wear formal attire.

COLOMBIA LAND OF FLOWERS


Asocolflores, la Asociación Colombiana de Exportadores de Flores, representa floricultores que manejan cerca del 75% de las exportaciones totales de flores de Colombia. Reúne a más de 240 cultivos afiliados ubicados en la sabana de Bogotá, en el área de Rionegro (Antioquia), el Viejo Caldas y el Valle del Cauca.

Asocolflores se creó en 1973 como una organización gremial, sin ánimo de lucro, para representar y promover el sector de las flores en los mercados internacionales, y buscar el desarrollo integral de la floricultura, principalmente en aspectos de acceso a mercados, investigación, transporte, Florverde (sello de certificación socio- ambiental) y los programas de responsabilidad social con diversos proyectos con el fin de mejorar la calidad de vida de los trabajadores, de sus familias y de diferentes sectores de la población considerados vulnerables.

En representación del floricultor colombiano, Asocolflores tiene una participación muy activa a nivel nacional e internacional. En Colombia hace parte de diferentes organizaciones empresariales, tanto del sector público como del privado. En el exterior, Asocolflores pertenece a las principales organizaciones representativas de la floricultura. En cada una de ellas, nuestra Asociación promueve la competitividad de las flores colombianas en los mercados del mundo.

Colombia es el país de América Latina que ofrece mayor variedad de flores ya que cuenta con un núcleo empresarial muy consolidado de cultivadores, proveedores y facilidades logísticas, además de un lugar geográficamente estratégico. Asocolflores tiene el compromiso de destacar estas cualidades y de compartir con el mundo la filosofía de la floricultura colombiana.

EGYPTO COMPRA CARNE COLOMBIANA



La buena condición sanitaria de la población bovina del país continúa generando beneficios para los ganaderos. Luego de que recientemente Rusia permitiera la importación de carne bovina colombiana, Egipto confirmó que su mercado también abre las puertas a este producto.

Este importante logro obedece a la gestión técnica del Instituto Colombiano Agropecuario, ICA, y el Instituto Nacional de Vigilancia de Alimentos y Medicamentos, INVIMA y la CAMARA DE COMERCIO ARABE COLOMBIANA ante el Ministerio de Agricultura y Regulación de Tierras de la República Árabe de Egipto, quien aprobó la propuesta de certificación sanitaria presentada por Colombia para la exportación a su país de carne de bovino deshuesada congelada o refrigerada. Esta gestión contó con el apoyo de Proexport.

Este nuevo mercado abre a los productores y a la industria cárnica nacional grandes perspectivas de negocios, considerando que Egipto es el país más poblado de África y que en 2010 importó en carne congelada deshuesada más de 699 millones de dólares, siendo Brasil el primer abastecedor de este producto, según datos del Centro de Comercio Internacional.

Próximamente Colombia exportará al país de medio oriente 2 mil toneladas de carne, provenientes de tres frigoríficos autorizados, ubicados en los departamentos de Córdoba, Cesar y Santander.
Rafael Sanmiguel, Subgerente de Protección Fronteriza del ICA, insistió en que estas nuevas oportunidades de comercialización se obtienen gracias a la condición sanitaria del país y al cumplimiento de las normas de inocuidad exigidas por los diferentes mercados.

La certificación sanitaria presentada por los dos institutos, que fue aprobada por las autoridades sanitarias de Egipto, constata entre otros aspectos, que la carne procede de animales sanos nacidos y criados en Colombia que no han padecido enfermedades vesiculares. Así mismo, garantiza que el producto es obtenido en frigoríficos que se encuentran bajo vigilancia oficial y en donde no se ha presentado en los últimos seis meses focos de fiebre aftosa en un radio de 10 km.
